Two technological designs from the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) received praise from the Minister of Transportation (Menhub), Ignasius Jonan who visited the ITS technology exhibition, recently. The two technologies consist of an Automatic Identification System (AIS) and iStow: Stowage Planner from the Faculty of Marine Technology (FTK).
Jonan assessed that both AIS and iStow technology are needed in the shipping world. AIS is able to better guarantee security and safety when shipping. This technology can also reduce the risk of damage to underwater pipelines due to incorrectly lowering the anchor.
“One of them is technology to monitor ship movements in complex shipping lanes. Apart from that, namely technology to regulate the arrangement of goods on board,” he said quoted from the ITS website, Monday (30/5/2016).
The former Main Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) revealed that iStow, which functions to arrange the arrangement of goods on board, is needed because so far the arrangement of cargo on board still uses only estimates.
“I think these two are interesting to develop, while other technologies still need to be discussed together again. If it’s good, of course we’ll try it, “he said.
On that occasion, Jonan also experienced the tram construction project in Surabaya. According to one of his employees, the funds for the construction of the tram have even been prepared. Likewise with the design. Meanwhile, Jonan predicts that the project will be ready for operation in the next two or three years.
